The way that C.S. goes about creating this list is via data collected from an annual survey of its members. The survey asks them to note any problems from a list of specified areas such as engine performance or electrical systems. As one of the largest scientific reviews in the U.S., the Auto Questionnaire received feedback on approximately 420,000 vehicles in their latest survey. Mazda MX-5 Miata
Voted as the most reliable car you can own by Consumer Reports, the Mazda MX-5 Miata is also iconically fun to drive. The car is a two-seat roadster with a peppy four-cylinder engine and many standard tech and safety features. New standard features for 2020 include blind spot monitoring, lane departure warning, and forward collision warning with brake assist. Many of these features combined with its optimum performance and upscale interior have the MX-5 Miata scoring high in many other categories as well.
Toyota Prius Prime
Introduced to the North American market in 2016, The Prius Prime is the electric version of the much loved Toyota Prius. In fact, the Prius Prime has become an even more appreciated version of the car due to its ability to go around 23 miles on electricity alone while maintaining the famed Prius reliability. Just like the regular Prius, the Prime will alternate between gas and electric when not in EV mode, thus averaging approximately 50mpg.

In addition the NX was awarded as “Top Pick Plus” for 2020 by the Insurance Institute of Highway Safety, which is the institute’s highest rating. The SUV is as comfortable and stylish as the Lexus name boasts and Consumer Reports also notes that the NX is the most fuel efficient out of all SUVs tested at 29 mpg overall.

Though the Toyota 4-Runner has switched places with the Lexus NX on this list for 2020, the 4-Runner is still among the top for reliability and dependability. These SUVs are built more for off-roading than city driving and as such are slightly pricey for a brand new model. However, due to the longevity of the 4-Runner, consumers can buy a used model for a significantly cheaper price and still reap the benefits of driving a safe, reliable SUV. Known for their ample cargo room and standard roof rails, the 4-Runner can tow up to 5,000 lbs, which is enough for a small trailer or boat.
